Contra Costa County is an outdoor enthusiast’s delight; it is home to more than 1,200 miles of hiking trails within dozens of parks spread across the county.

The Contra Costa County Public Works Department operates and maintains a variety of parks throughout the county and manages contracts for recreational programming in Alamo, Rodeo and San Pablo. The County’s Park Permit for use of county maintained parks can be found by clicking the following link: Park Permit (PDF).

Recreational Activities

Lefty Gomez The Community Center located in 470 Parker Avenue, Rodeo 94572 is open for facility reservations. Office hours are Tuesday and Thursday 4:00-7:00 p.m. Hours may vary due to Contra Costa County's pandemic Health Order and holiday scheduling. Montarabay Community Center The Community Center located in 2250 Tara Hills Drive, San Pablo, 94806 is open for facility reservations. Other State and National Park Districts within Contra Costa County

There are a number of regional park districts within Contra Costa County, the largest being the East Bay Regional Park District, which spans more than 100,000 acres. John Muir National Historic Site is also within Contra Costa County. 

Mt. Diablo State Park offers the most recognizable landmark right in the middle of the county, rising more than 3,800 feet, and visible from nearly every vantage point. The park offers a variety of recreational opportunities.

In Contra Costa County you can swim, bike, golf, fish, picnic and explore a variety of venues; there is truly something for everyone.
